Janette Manrara slams claims she encouraged Strictly curse between Sara and Aljaž

Strictly star Janette Manrara has slammed claims that she’s encouraging off-screen chemistry between Sara Davies and her pro dancer husband Aljaž Škorjanec.

Dragons’ Den star Sara revealed in a recent interview that the Strictly: It Takes Two host had urged her to build upon her on-screen relationship with Alijaž.

Sara said at the time: “Janette gave me a right talking to about it. She said, ‘look Sara, you’re going to have to look into his eyes and imagine that my husband is actually your husband and imagine it’s Simon and dance it like it’s him’.

“She said ‘I’m good with it, Simon is good with it, you have to be good with it’.'”

When asked about the remarks she made about Sara making her real-life partner Aljaž “her own”, Janette defended her strong stance on the matter.

In an exclusive chat with the Daily Star and other press at the Daily Mirror’s Pride of Britain Awards, the dancer slammed the idea she meant anything more than improving their performance.

Janette said: “Yes, you are doing the rumba, so she has to look at him like he’s her own husband, they’re telling a love story, and that song means a lot to her and it always reminds her of her husband.

“I told her ‘for the dance, you need to take him, he’s yours’. And they did really well.

“When they dance together it’s their moment, he’s hers in that moment.”

When asked if she means when they are only on the show, Janette spat back at the jibe which was made in relation to the notorious Strictly curse.

She said: “What are you trying to get at?! He is his own human being – I am his wife and he is my husband and – I am very pleased to see them doing so well.”

The 37-year-old star also revealed some behind-the-scenes secrets from the BBC One show.

She explained that said sometimes the costumes are finished just minutes before the stars are about to go on the dancefloor.

She added: “I feel like sometimes costumes aren’t even ready and we are going live so that’s how last-minute costumes are sometimes.

“There are no backups. They just make it happen, the show must go on.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday night on BBC One
