Kate Garraway was overcome with emotion on tonight’s episode of Life Stories.
Kate, who is taking over hosting duties of the show from Piers Morgan, was moved to tears when Piers revealed he had her husband Derek’s anniversary card to her in the studio.
The Good Morning Britain presenter began to tell Piers how for their anniversary earlier this year, children Darcy and Billy, went to the shop to pick up a card.
They bought the card for dad Derek, who is recovering at the family’s north London home following, his health battle.
Piers then held up the card to show Kate he had it in the studio and he instantly choked up
The card had a simple “So proud of you” message on the front cover.
Piers then opened the card and Derek had managed to write “Very proud. Love Derek x,” seeing Kate get even more overcome with emotion.
Talking through tears, Kate then said: “Well, I’m very proud of him.”
During one of the video montages on the programme, Derek’s parents addressed Kate and said: “Thank you for all you’re doing for Derek and the children and we love you so much.”
Her dad Gordon, who was sat in the studio audience, his daughter Kate was an “inspiration” as he broke down in tears.
Elsewhere in the chat, Kate spoke about the heartwarming moment Derek was able to tell her “I love you,” for the first time since his health battle.
Recalling the touching moment, Kate shared: “It’s moments like that which make you realise he is there, and we have had others. He will turn to me and say ‘I love you.’
“He is there, he has fought so hard to stay in this world and I’m not giving up on him, ever.”
Derek was diagnosed with covid in March 2020, and while he is now covid-free, he still has a long way to go after the virus wreaked havoc on his internal organs.
