Kate Garraway has revealed that she is set to make a sequel to the award-winning documentary about her husband Derek Draper and his ongoing recovery after being hospitalised with Coronavirus in 2020.
On Thursday night, Kate picked up the National Television Award for Authored Documentary for her moving documentary Finding Derek.
Kate and Finding Derek was up against documentaries like Katie Price: Harvey And Me, and Marcus Rashford: Feeding Britain’s Children.
But the documentary that moved the nation won the gong, which led to Kate revealing there will be a follow up to the raw and emotional programme.
Talking to The Sun after the ceremony, she said: “We are going to make another documentary, there are plans for more.
“Derek has a very short window of energy, but we are trying.
“He has been home for four months now and it was enough for him being home.”
Hinting at a steady recovery, Kate then said, “now we are really hoping we can have more and more people in to see him.”
After win winning the award, Kate shared a rare snap of her husband.
Taking to Instagram, the GMB presenter shared a snap of their FaceTime call after she collected the award.
Derek’s eyes lit up as he appeared to look overjoyed as he saw Kate holding the coveted award.
Sharing the screenshot of their call, Kate penned: “Wow. Thank you so so much. Have been in such an emotional daze all night I failed to get a single photo of me or the brilliant @flickerproductions team who made #findingderek @theofficalntas,”
The caption then went onto say: “But maybe this is the photo you most wanted to see anyway – Me FaceTiming derek (via Darcey’s phone!) to tell him we had won! From him and from the bottom of our family’s hearts THANKYOU.”
She concluded: “For all who are struggling on and holding on to hope – this is for you.”
Fans, friends and followers flocked to the comments, overjoyed that Derek had made a social media appearance.
Amanda Holden commented: “So thrilled you won,” complete with a big red heart emoji.
Colleague and GMB co-host Alex Beresford said: “His eyes say it all! So happy for you.”
YouTuber Louise Pentland wrote a sweet tribute: “Congratulations Kate, so very well deserved and such love, healing and success to you and your family xxxx”
While a fan penned: “This was the most important award at the NTAs. Well done on your amazing and so insightful documentary Kate that touch my heart so deeply. The same goes to all the nominees. All amazing people with amazing stories to share.”
