Kate Garraway has said she is “wonderfully overwhelmed” following the kind reaction over her husband Derek Draper’s Covid-19 story, Finding Derek.
The 53-year-old Good Morning Britain presenter’s heartbreaking ITV documentary on her hubby’s horrifying battle against the coronavirus and then recovering as it’s left him in hospital for a year.
Derek has been in hospital since last March and was in a coma for months. Awaking last year to reveal with one horrifying word that he was in pain as he cried out: “Pain”.
Following the show, Kate has been contacted by the likes of David Beckham but she has also been left “overwhelmed” from the response from fans.
On GMB this morning Kate told her friends and co-stars Susanna Reid and Adil Ray that she is “wonderfully overwhelmed” by the kind comments and remarks she’s received online.
Susanna asked Kate how she feels about the “impact” from the documentary.
Kate replied: “It’s been absolutely overwhelming in a really wonderful way.”
Kate continued: “So many comments from people and then I suppose we spoke on Tuesday morning about how it was quite a difficult decision to think about filming it but you hope it would be comforting for some people and shed a light on a group of people who may still be suffering.
“Also people who haven’t been focused on and the reaction has been extraordinary.”
It comes after fans rushed to defend Kate after cruel trolls said the documentary was “shameful”.

“Absolutely shameful that Kate would film this! It’s more Kate The journalist rather than Kate Garraway the wife,” the cruel keyboard warrior penned.
It wasn’t long before fans rushed to Kate’s defence after the mean comment was posted.
“You couldn’t be more wrong with your comment. She is a true inspiration,” wrote one fan, before another penned: “If you can be anything #BeKind I hope Derek’s children can’t read your silly negativity.”
