Masked Singer fans couldn’t believe their eyes when The Seahorse was unmasked after Saturday’s elimination, with a legendary songstress hiding behind the mask.
Taking off their costume, The Seahorse was revealed to be none other than singer Mel B, who is famed as one-fifth of the Spice Girls.
The judges – Rita Ora, Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross, and Mo Gilligan – were visibly surprised by the reveal, delighted to witness the unmasking.
However, the judges had something of an inkling Mel might be a contender, with three of the stars even throwing Mel’s name into the ring.
After the reveal, viewers were just as shocked, taking to Twitter to express their surprise over the celeb identity that had been hiding beneath the costume.
One said: “Kinda mad at myself that I didn’t guess who Seahorse was!”
“I’m SO WRONG this series but that’s honestly making it more entertaining,” wrote a second.
And a third chimed: “This is hysterical I cannot cope an actual Spice Girl eliminated on the second week.”
The Seahorse and Grandfather Clock made it to the bottom two, but the judges plumped to eliminate the former after much consideration.
Mel was disappointed the judges had successfully guessed her identity, and wondered what had given the game away.
Rita and Mo pointed out Mel’s accent was a dead giveaway, hinting her Northern twang had sealed her fate.
Mel said: “I thought I disguised myself pretty well with my voice and accent.”
Rita argued: “You have such a distinct twang with the way you speak!”
Explaining why she decided to take part in the show, the songstress admitted she wanted the opportunity to “not be yourself for a second”.
Bringing the episode to a close, Mel impressed viewers with a dazzling rendition of Kylie Minogue’s classic hit On A Night Like This.
If someone as legendary as Mel has been revealed on the second week, who knows what surprises lay in store for the rest of the series!
Masked Singer airs on Saturdays at 7pm on ITV.
