Piers Morgan defends himself in fiery post after flying to Antigua at Christmas

Piers Morgan has took to Twitter to slam a right-winged political site, which claimed he had broken the coronavirus lockdown rules, by jetting off to Antigua for Christmas.

The Good Morning Britain host’s cage had clearly been rattled after it had been alleged that Piers had not been compliant with restrictions even though he urged everyone to “make compromises” over the festive season because of the pandemic.

Coming clean, Piers, 55, previously confessed that he had visited the Caribbean island but he was insistent that he was allowed to do so and always kept to government guidelines that were in place at the time.

The Twitter account belonging to Guido Fawkes took a different view and instead opted to call the breakfast presenter out on his actions.

Their tweet read: “Government advice in December was not to travel unless it was essential.

“Piers was publicly calling for Christmas to be cancelled and tougher restrictions.

“He flew to Antigua first class on Virgin before Christmas Day.”

Not one to backdown, an angry Piers took to his own account to set the record straight.

Firing back, he wrote: “Hi Guido, Happy New Year. 1) The Govt said travel abroad from Tier 3 was allowed if people went straight to the airport.

“2) I didn’t call for Christmas to be cancelled.

“3) I haven’t flown on Virgin for a year.

“4) I last flew First Class in February. Otherwise, spot on!”

The right-winged account had referred to Piers’ tweet in November when he called for the nation to take a stripped-back approach when it came to the festive season.

Using his platform to voice his opinion, he asked others to consider celebrating this year’s festive period virtually instead.

At the time, he penned: “Covid-19 doesn’t give a flying f*ck about Christmas. If we have to make compromises this year, so be it.

“We can still attend virtual church services, and still have virtual meals with all the trimmings.

“The vaccines are coming fast, let’s save as many lives as possible until then.”
