Richard Madeley tipped to be first I'm A Celeb 2021 contestant to do Bushtucker Trial

Richard Madeley is the current firm favourite to be put forward for the first bushtucker trial ahead of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!’s launch next weekend.

Public voting scores provided by bookmakers William Hill, who have revealed their latest betting figures, place the television presenter at the top of the list of people who are expected to take part in the first trial of the series.

Richard, 65, was placed at odds of 2-1, beating Corrie’s Simon Gregson, who placed second and The Saturday’s singer Frankie Bridges who placed third, both with odds of 9-2.

Other rumoured contestants are Adam Wooyatt, who plays EastEnders’ Ian Beale, Emmerdale’s Danny Miller and ex-Strictly judge and professional choreographer Arlene Phillips.

Richard has been rumoured as a contestant for years, with his wife Judy often teasing him after his son-in-law James Haskell went into the jungle in 2019.

However, it was reported last month it that the former This Morning host had finally agreed to sign up to the series for a comfortable £200k deal.

A source told The Sun: “Richard’s been asked year after year but the timing has never been right but now, finally, he’s said yes.

“He’s a favourite with ITV executives and he’s brilliant off and on screen so it seemed as good a time as any to throw caution to the wind and eat animal bits.

“Richard’s a fantastic coup and a nailed-on fan favourite. Once you wind him up, off he goes. He will make for castle gold.”

The celebrities are due to make their first television appearance at Gwrych Castle in Wales on Sunday, November 21.

The location was chosen in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The show is hosted by Ant and Dec and usually broadcasts from Australia and this will be the second year in a row that the ancient castle will host the competition.
