British rocker Robin Le Mesurier has passed away at the age of 68 following a battle with cancer.
The musician, known for his work with Rod Stewart and performing as part of pop-rock band The Wombles, died on Wednesday, his friends have announced.
His death comes six years after he joined fellow rockers Rod, Ronnie Wood and Kenney Jones, for the Faces reunion tour in 2015 – more than 40 years after the band formally announced they were splitting up.
Maggie May hitmaker Rod has since paid a touching tribute to his “dear friend”.
He penned: “A Rock & Roll soul, rest in peace my dear friend.”

The singer ended the post with an emoji of hands in prayer and the hashtag, “#robinlemesurier”.
Following the tragic news, the son of Beatles star John Lennon, Julian Lennon, also took to social media to pay his respects to the musician.
He told his 255,100 followers: “Heartbroken to hear of the Passing of My Dear Old friend, Robin Le Mesurier… Forever in our Hearts.
Born in 1953, Robin was influenced by the likes of Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and Muddy Waters.

The star is who was the son of Dad’s Army star John Le Mesurier and Carry On actress Hattie Jacques.
He formed his first band The Reign who were together until 1973, when Robin became guitarist for The Wombles.
Three years later, he signed with a record company associated with Rod and toured the US with the star as his opening act.

In 1994, he recorded two tracks for Johnny’s record Rough Town, becoming his musical director.
During his early years he would often wake in the early hours to the sound of Spike Milligan and Peter Sellers playing jazz at his home and once described how ‘it always seemed like an ongoing party’.
In 2017, he told The Express: “It became normal for me to see famous people. I was in awe because I had seen them on film and TV.
“Kenneth Williams was another regular. He was an amazing character whom I adored, and was like a brother to my mother. Peter Sellers was always joking around. Then there was Tony Hancock and the charming Sid James.”
