HRVY has revealed that he played up to the romance rumours surrounding him during his time on Strictly Come Dancing.
The singer, who appeared on the 2020 edition of the BBC dancing competition, was said to be dating EastEnders actress Maisie Smith after they instantly struck up a friendship.
Over the course of history, Strictly has been inundated with claims that the show has placed a “curse” on the love lives of the celebs after several began a romantic relationship with their dance partner.
In an exclusive chat with Daily Star, fresh from his headline tour, HRVY has opened up about his relationship with Maisie.
The 22-year-old reflected on the infamous curse, saying: “I think it’s real, not on me, but I reckon it’s real.
“It’s not like it’s not cursed, maybe a light curse, a tiny bit, from my experience, obviously definitely not.”
The Runaway With It hitmaker went on to say: “I know that from previous years, it really is.”
However, he explained that despite the speculation, celebrities and their dance partners face no extra pressure while competing.
The former Friday Download presenter continued: “I feel like you kind of play into it a little bit yourself, you can choose if you want to play into it or not.”
When asked if he purposely set tongues wagging, he added: “A little bit, yeah, I didn’t play into it but the whole thing with me and Maisie, we became really good friends on the show and apparently I was dating her.
“I saw the other day about ‘HRVY and Maisie split in December’, I was like ‘I don’t think we were ever together’, we were never together, we were just mates.
“It was almost funny to watch it happen, I suppose.
“The thing is, you can deny it but then it’s just like ‘let people think, let people speculate’, it’s all part of the fun, nobody likes to admit it but it’s true.”
Despite being busy on tour, HRVY reunited with his dance partner Janette Manrara at the National Television Awards in September earlier this year.
“I can’t believe it’s been a year since I did Strictly, I’ve been watching clips here and there on YouTube and I forget how addictive it is when you watch it,” he joked.
HRVY added: “I watched it in my hotel and I was glued to my TV, I don’t have any personal relationships with the new celebrities but I was so invested.”
