This Morning viewers were left appalled when a climate change activist appeared ‘naked’ on Thursday’s episode.
Joining presenters Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby live in the studio of the ITV daytimes series was Extinction Rebellion activist Laura Amherst.
Dubbed ‘the topless protestor’ in the press for images of her appearing topless at XR events, Laura appeared ‘naked’ in the studio to discuss her unusual brand of activism.
Her nudity left viewers on Twitter concerned about the hygiene on-set of the programme.
One wrote: “Is her bare bottom on that sofa?”
Another commented: “Uhhh… the sofa that this woman’s sitting on?”
A third concerned viewer tweeted: “Hope she’s sitting on a blanket or something.”
Meanwhile, a fourth advised: “They should have put a plastic sheet down on that chair.”
Another said: “Hope she’s sat on a towel!”
“Sorry but…is her hooha just nakedly sat on that couch? Philip doesn’t know where to look,” another horrified viewer concluded.
Explaining her participation in XR events, Laura said: “As a mother, I worry about the future our children are going to have.”
Describing her topless activism as a “really liberating experience”, she added: “It’s about education and it’s about awareness and it’s about getting the right people’s attention.”
On the need to resort to nudity, Laura also said her topless activism tactics were “a reflection of the patriarchal society that we live in”.
She said: “People kind of strip off and get naked for less than honourable causes … so I think why not use my assets to the advantage of not only myself but everyone else?
“Unfortunately, this is the world we’re living in.”
During her This Morning visit, Laura held up two signs which read “no more empty target” and “save our planet”.
This Morning airs weekdays from 10 am on ITV.
