A Place in the Sun's Laura Hamilton told off by senior royal in awkward palace blunder

A Place In The Sun’s Laura Hamilton suffered a rather awkward encounter with a royal family member during a visit to Buckingham Palace.

During the earlier stages of her career, she worked on the Jubilee Celebrations and even got to meet some of the royals in person.

Laura told us about the time she was once “told off” by a royal during an exclusive Facebook Live chat.

She said: “I got told off by Prince Phillip for speeding in a golf buggy around Buckingham Palace.

“This was when I worked behind the scenes, I was an assistant floor manager and did stage management and you’d take artists to the stage before their performances.

Laura has starred on the show for ten years

“The Jubilee Celebrations were incredible, I remember standing in the accreditation marquee and there was Phil Collins, Paul McCartney and all of the absolute greats, Eric Clapton, it was insane.

“I’d be saying ‘oh my word,’ I couldn’t believe it, I was only 20. It was an amazing experience.

She continued: “But I had a golf buggy and would drive artists around to get them on stage for their call times and Prince Phillip come up to me and said ‘excuse me, young lady, would you mind slowing down?’

“I was like ‘oh my god, I got told off.’ Of course, I had to be respectful but I was just like ‘wow.’

Laura also opened up about her ongoing health battle as the host suffers from Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP).

The disorder can lead to easy or excessive bruising and bleeding. The bleeding results from unusually low levels of platelets — the cells that help blood clot.

Giving a health update, Laura said: “I have something called ITP, Immune thrombocytopenia, which is low platelets count in my blood its quite an unknown disease.

“It sort of flares ups and downs depending on what’s going on with my life and stress often brings it out.”

“But that’s kind of under control at the moment I don’t have bruising quite like that on my legs but it does happen it does flare up but I’m always trying to be positive about things and be a glass half-full.”

The presenter has starred on the C4 show for ten years and thanks the programme for playing such a big part in her TV career.

She described the APITS team as “one big family” and says she has no plans on leaving any time soon.
