Armie Hammer's father Michael Armand Hammer dies aged 67 after being ill 'for some time'

Armie Hammer’s father Michael Armand Hammer has passed away aged 67.

The businessman has been “quite some time” battling cancer, TMZ report.

He worked at an investment banking firm in New York City before getting involved with Occidental Petroleum, the company his grandfather and oil tycoon ,Armand Hammer, opened for years.

Over the years, Michael looked over Hammer Productions, the Armand Hammer Foundation, Hammer Galleries, and the Hammer International Foundation.

Michael and then-wife Dru Ann Mobley welcomed son Armie back in 1986 and Armie’s brother, Viktor, two years later.

He’s survived by his wife, Misty, as well as Armie and Viktor.

The Hammer family was heavily featured in the docuseries, House of Hammer.

Michael sat on the board of directors and the executive committee for the Los Angeles Dream Center, and also serves on the Investment Committee and Board of Reference for Oral Roberts University.

He was the owner and chief executive of NYC art dealership Knoedler, which closed in 2011.

The family has a mausoleum in the Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park, where a number of other family members were laid to rest.

Michael formerly resided at a 1920s Tudor-style mansion, that was featured in films and television shows, including the Bells of St. Mary’s, Rocky V, and others.

It had erroneously been dubbed “Wayne Manor”, as it was thought the house had been used in the Batman TV show. However, an adjacent residence was the site used for Batman.

The historic mansion was destroyed by fire in October 2005 during a renovation by the Hammers.

His son Armie began his acting career with guest appearances in several television series.

His first leading role was as Billy Graham in the 2008 film Billy: The Early Years, and he gained wider recognition for his portrayal of the twins Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss in The Social Network, for which he won the Toronto Film Critics Association Award for Best Supporting Actor.

In 2017, he starred in Luca Guadagnino’s romantic drama Call Me by Your Name, for which he received a nomination for the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor and a nomination for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Male.

The following year, he portrayed Martin D. Ginsburg in the biopic On the Basis of Sex (2018). On Broadway, he starred in a production of Straight White Men in 2018.

Armie was dropped by his acting agency WME in 2021 following a series of allegations of abuse from several women – which have not been proven true.

It has since been reported he’s working as a timeshare salesman.
