BBC Breakfast was doling out tension in spades this week, as presenter Naga Munchetty shut down her co-host Charlie Stayt, branding his news item “nonsense”.
It didn’t stop there, as Charlie went on to imply that the pair aren’t friends – leaving a very chilly atmosphere on Thursday (October 6).
As the pair were looking through the newspaper headlines of the day, Charlie stumbled across the news of a restaurant solely aimed at dogs, charging $75 (£66) for a three-course meal.

Charlie explained: “This is a dog bistro, basically, and they do a three-course tasting menu for $75.
“On a Sunday, for example, would you like to hear what’s on the menu?” he asked Naga, who was incredulous as she replied: “That’s $75 for the dog?”
“Yes, it’s a dog restaurant,” Charlie explained patiently. “It’s only the dogs that get fed. So the tasting menu is a first course, appetiser, of chicken and chaga mushroom soup. While the second course was chicken skin waffle and charcoal flan.
“Main course was a hand-cut, grass-fed filet mignon with a quail egg on top, with broccoli.”
Sneering at the news, Naga simply repeated: “Nonsense!” as she rolled her eyes.
But the tension didn’t stop there, as she went on to produce a report on how long it takes to make friends, telling Charlie: “So, how many hours do you think it takes to become a good friend?”
“Years, probably,” Charlie replied, as Naga corrected him: “No! No, 34 hours, apparently, after this study of more than 2,000 individuals.”
She went on to cite more of the research, quoting: “The ultimate formula for a friendship involves 11 interactions, each lasting on average, three hours and four minutes.”
Naga then quipped to Charlie: “How long is this programme?” – the answer, of course, being three hours and fifteen minutes per day.

But Charlie didn’t take her cue, as he spluttered: “That’s not… that’s not right. Doesn’t make any sense.”
Looking aghast, Naga widened her eyes for the camera and had a giggle as Charlie moved swiftly on to tell viewers the time, seemingly unaware of her offence.
Thankfully, though, the pair seemed in good spirits as they progressed with the next news item – and clearly were pals after all.
BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
