Newsreaders broadcasting on the BBC and ITV were slammed by viewers for their poor choice of wording as rain covered the UK prior to the passing of the Queen.
While reporting on Her Majesty the Queen’s ill-health – prior to her death, newsreaders up and down the country were talking about the miserable weather – but with a poor wording choice that viewers picked up on.
Newsreader Romilly Weeks said “the heavens have opened”, leaving some viewers to call it out.
Taking to Twitter, one social networker penned: “‘The heavens have opened’ is probably the worst thing a bbc correspondent could say.”

Another added: “Can’t believe I’m watching BBC and they are reporting outside where the queen is staying and reporter goes well the heavens have just opened on about the rain. What a dummy.”
“Wow terrible wording from @BBCOne ‘the heavens haven opened at Buckingham palace’,” penned a third.
A fourth also noted: “This woman on bbc news finds it appropriate to use the phrase ‘the heavens have opened’ whilst standing outside the queens home where she is currently dying. Give them some peace Christ sake.”
Another Twitter user posted a GIF of an awkward-looking mouse and penned: “Romilly just said the heavens have opened #itvnews.”
Shortly after Romilly Weeks posted a video on Twitter of the result of the downpour.
Posting a video of a rainbow outside Buckingham Palace, Romilly penned: “A rainbow has appeared opposite Buckingham Palace over crowds hoping for better news on the Queen’s health @itvnews.”
This comes as the entire United Kingdom – and the world – mourns the sad passing of Queen Elizabeth following her death today (September 8).
On Thursday afternoon a Royal spokesman revealed that she was experiencing ill-health when they said: “Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision.
“The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral.”
But at around 6:30pm, the palace announced that Her Majesty had died earlier today – with tributes flooding in.
