BBC News presenter Huw Edwards appeared emotional as he broke the tragic news that Her Majesty the Queen had passed away aged 96.
The veteran BBC broadcaster, 61, took a deep breath before he announced the passing of the beloved monarch to the nation on Thursday evening (September 8).
The TV anchor wore a black tie and suit for the studio as he took the reigns of the BBC’s special news programme covering the latest updates on the Queen’s health.

The BBC had cleared its programmed scheduling for Thursday afternoon following the shocking news the Queen had been placed under medical supervision at Balmoral.
After a long silence, Huw broke the news as he said: “A few moments ago, Buckingham Palace announced the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The palace has just issued this statement.”
He proceeded to read out a statement from Buckingham Palace which revealed that the Queen died “peacefully”.
Reading the statement, Huw continued: “It said ‘The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and the Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.'”
His voice appeared to quiver for a moment as he repeated the news, and it seemed he took a moment to bite his lip or gather breath before carrying on.
He then gave a recap of Her Majesty’s incredible 70-year reign whilst a montage of gorgeous photos of the monarch were shown in the background.
Huw said: “Her Majesty was 96 years old. She became Queen on the 6th February 1952 on the death of her father, King George VI.
“She heard the news whilst staying at a game lodge in Kenya at the age of 25, and her coronation at Westminster Abbey was watched by more than 20 million people.”
The screen then faded out to complete black with a moment of silence before the BBC logo returned on a grey screen with the text: “News Report.”
Huw then explained there had been a change in scheduling to honour the passing of Her Majesty before continuing with the coverage.
The Queen died at Balmoral Castle on Thursday afternoon, with her children such as Prince William and Prince Harry travelling to Scotland to see her.
