Britain’s Got Talent fans are convinced they have figured out who is behind the ‘phantom act’ from last night’s show — and it’s a name that will be familiar to viewers.
The ITV talent show returned on Saturday evening with a bizarre routine at the London Palladium which saw judge Amanda Holden sit in the middle of the stage as an ‘invisible’ presence hypnotised her and unleashed chaos around the empty stage.
The same phantom voice then asked Alesha Dixon select an item out of a wooden box, and Amanda successfully guessed what was inside.
A freaky trick also saw the mysterious figure draw something on a chalkboard without a hand being present.
All four judges seemed to be suitably creeped out by the act, with them all giving yeses to the empty stage. The lack of any stage presence, however, has left a bug cloud of mystery to who was behind it.
Avid fans of the show have taken to social media to offer their own guesses, with many saying it was series 12 semi-finalist Marc Spelmann.
The 50 year old illusionist was Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly’s Golden Buzzer pick from the previous series, and left viewers stunned when he was revealed to mystery act X.
One confident fan wrote on Twitter: “Calling it now that The Phantom who was just on BGT is that Marc Spellman who then came back as X”
Another said: “I was immediately thinking the Phantom was Marc Spellman”, with another questioning “Could the ghost be Marc Spellman again??”
A supporter of Spelmann’s meanwhile begged for his return, saying: “I’m so hoping the Phantom is X aka Marc Spellman back again.”
Marc Spelmann. has also starred in international versions of the show, and in early January 2020 he competed in America’s Got Talent: The Champions’ second series.
