Channel 5's Jeremy Vine show Ofcom complaints skyrocket to 761 after Covid vaccine debate

Channel 5’s the Jeremy Vine show has been slapped with further complaints after a debate broke out over the Covid-19 vaccine.

Last week, Ofcom announced that the programme had been hit with 199 grievances but now the number has skyrocketed to 761 – as even more viewers reach out to the broadcasting regulator.

Fans have expressed their dismay after an episode which aired on January 24 left a bad taste with some.

According to Twitter users at the time, there had been a raft of distressing comments made about unvaccinated patients who were currently hospitalised throughout the UK – live on air.

The micro-blogging site blew up with critical remarks after a clip began to circulate which saw Yasmin Alibhai-Brown and Lowri Turner discussing mandatory jabs for NHS workers.

Many online users moaned that misinformation had been spread during the candid chat, on whether or not the government should scrap mandatory vaccines.

Fans complained misinformation had been spread about the Covid-19 vaccine

One online user grumbled: “It’s unbearable to endlessly watch people talk about these things when they’re basing their opinions on false and missing information.”

A second fumed: “@JeremyVineOn5 @theJeremyVine and @y_alibhai JV you made no attempt to correct her misinformation and put her, and your viewers right – that anybody can contract or pass it on.

“Why not? Your failure contributes to the fearmongering and divisiveness.”

Fans were clearly divided on the subject as many agreed with Yasmin that NHS staff should be vaccinated or face being sacked

A third moaned: “Shock, this woman being extreme again.. almost like it’s just for the TV.”

In spite of much upset, fans of the programme had certainly been divided over Yasmin’s comments.

Many of which took to their own platforms to defend her – agreeing that NHS staff should be jabbed or face being sacked.
