Coronation Street fans have become suspicious of Audrey Robert’s son Stephen Reid, following his sudden arrival on the cobbles recently.
Stephen rescued Audrey from underneath a motorcycle at the salon, and since then, Audrey has entrusted him with looking after her money and trust funds left to the Platt family.
However, fans think that Stephen could have a hidden motive behind his return.

From murder plots to plans to steal Audrey’s money, fans have taken to forums and social media to discuss Stephen’s unexpected arrival.
Here, Daily Star takes a look at fan theories surrounding Stephen Reid in Coronation Street.
Hidden secret
Fans have grown suspicious of Stephen Reid since his arrival on the cobbles – and many think that he is hiding a huge secret from mum Audrey.
Although he has not let on what this secret might be, one fan tweeted: “Stephen is definitely up to something, you don’t come back after all these years out of the blue without a motive.”
A second added: “I still don’t trust him though and he gives me the creeps.”
Another said on a forum: “What secret is he gonna bring back with him.”
Viewers have since speculated about what Stephen could be up to, with one suggesting he could be making a move to purchase Underworld.
“I wonder if he will make a move on the factory,” said one viewer on a fan forum.
Other fans think his previous links to Leanne Battersby through Nick Tidsley might lead to a potential storyline too, with one fan saying on a forum: “He has connections with Leanne, Toyah and Sally and it would be a good storyline for Sally.”
A second viewer on the same forum agreed, adding: “Bringing him back would certainly give Sally a gritty storyline and something to do.”
Meanwhile, another viewer on a fan forum suggested that Stephen could be after Audrey’s money – something that many Coronation Street fans are predicting too.
“Skint and after Audrey’s money?” questioned the viewer.
Will plot
The Platts were recently left reeling, after Audrey announced that she was leaving them money in her will – but that the trust funds would be looked after by eldest son Stephen.
However, many fans think they have worked out Stephen’s true motives.
It is clear to viewers that he is hiding something from Audrey – and they think he might be plotting to steal all of his mum’s money for himself.

One said: “Stephen is the one that’s gonna take all of Audrey’s money.”
“So Stephen is going to stick around and embezzle the trust funds.” a second said, while a third commented: “Stephen is broke & in debt so he is trying take Audrey’s money.”
A fourth also shared their concerns for Audrey’s money, adding: “Stephen is going to run off with the trust funds isn’t he?”
“Big mistake Audrey, Stephen will do a runner back to Canada,” said a fifth fan.
Audrey leaves
Many members of the Platt family, including Sarah and older brother Nick Tidsley, have left the cobbles to live with Stephen over the past few years.
Viewers might remember that Nick lived with Stephen in Canada, after his marriage to Leanne Battersby broke down in the late nineties.
Fans now think that Audrey might be the next family member to leave Weatherfield – and that she might live with Stephen in Canada.
One viewer tweeted: “I could be very wrong with this but, do you think this storyline with Audrey could write her out by going to live with Stephen in Canada?? I kept thinking that tonight” followed by crying emojis.
However, other fans are not so sure – and have predicted that Stephen is only in Weatherfield to steal Audrey’s money.
“He is just going to get her to change her will, he won’t take her anywhere,” commented another fan.
Stephen is killed
Following Stephen’s altercation with Kevin Webster at the garage, which saw Stephen’s car smashed up, fans think that Stephen might die in a car crash.
Although Kevin and Aaron fixed the car, they have predicted that the vehicle might not be fixed properly – resulting in a tragic accident for Audrey’s son.
One fan said: “Why do I get the feeling that Aaron hasn’t fixed it properly and it’ll break down or Stephen will crash?”
However, another theory suggests that Stephen could be murdered by his own mum.

Since Stephen rescued Audrey from underneath the motorcycle at the salon, the Weatherfield fan favourite has heaped praise on her eldest son – who in her eyes can do no wrong.
Actress Sue Nicholls revealed that Audrey believes he is a “golden child,” telling Radio Times: “As far as she is concerned Stephen can do no wrong, he is the golden child.
“He is a very successful businessman and whether the family like it or not he is ‘her Stephen’ and she has him on a pedestal.”
However, with Stephen’s arrival causing friction between the Platt family and also with Kevin Webster, who could be seen smashing up his car in recent episodes – could Audrey finally see the truth about her son?
Although fans have not picked up on this yet, one interesting theory originally published on The Daily Express seems to suggest that Audrey could discover the truth behind Stephen’s motives – and kill him.
They suggested: “Perhaps she will confront him to ask what his true intentions are.
“However, Stephen might not handle the situation well and could lash out at Audrey in a violent rage.”
