Coronation Street fans have worked out a famous Yorkshire comedian has taken on a new role in the popular ITV soap.
During Monday’s instalment of the long-standing drama, Emma Brooker (Alexandra Mardell) was recovering from a drunken night out on New Year’s Eve while she took Faye Windass (Ellie Leach) for another driving lesson.
But things quickly took a turn for the worse when the pair ran over an elderly man named Ted as he was crossing the road.
As they helped him up from the middle of the road, fans couldn’t help but notice the familiar face on screen.
And viewers soon swarmed to Twitter to share their thoughts online, with many predicting the famous face to be a beloved TV star.
They quickly recognised him as famous comedian Duggie Brown, who rose to fame on The Glamour Girls, House of Cards and is most known for appearing on The Comedians.
One posted: “That was nothing, I’ve seen Duggie Brown die a hundred times on The Comedians back in the day!”
Another added: “Bye Duggie Brown, we barely knew ya.”
A third said: “Oh no. Duggie Brown’s snuffed it just before his Amazon delivery!”
A fourth chipped in: “They’ve killed Duggie Brown! And he didn’t get one last chance to tell the parrot joke!”
Duggie is also the brother of beloved Ivy Tilsley star Lynne Perrie, who was on the cobbles for a whopping 23 years from 1971 to 1994.
Lynne sadly died at the age of 74 in 2006 after suffering from a stroke.
Ted originally told a stunned Faye and Emma that he was fine and carried on with his day, but things went from bad from worse in the second episode.
Emma and Faye decided to go to Ted’s flat later in the day to check he was okay and made a horrifying discovery.
They managed to get into the flat and found Ted dead, making Duggie’s stint on the soap very short indeed.
Soap producer Iain MacLeod previously said about the twist: “It’s not their fault [the accident] but it catapults them into a situation of impossible dilemmas, secrecy, and cover-ups.”
“It’s a story of really of two really likable, decent young women suddenly finding themselves miles out of their depth with potentially really life-changing consequences.”
Corrie airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm on ITV.
