Piers Morgan announced that Donald Trump would be the first guest on his new TalkTV show, and now the former US president has slammed the host for ‘doctoring’ the interview as well as leaking some of the audio from it.
Branding the former GMB anchor “deceptive”, Trump has leaked a segment of audio from the pair’s interview, to prove that he didn’t storm out at the end.
This is sure to leave Piers disgruntled, due to his new show starting in four days time.
Before Trump leaked the audio, it was announced that he was the first guest on the much-anticipated programme.
With a trailer released to the public, viewers could see that the upcoming interview turned so heated that Trump decided to storm out before they had finished talking.
But with an angry Trump leaking audio, according to Mediaite, a member of staff of the former President’s can be heard saying that Piers needs to wrap up the hour-long interview – which was reportedly supposed to last for just twenty minutes.
An assistant for Trump could be heard saying to Piers in the leaked audio: “You’ve done ‘last question’ four times now.”
The assistant added: “I feel like you’re lying at this point,” but Piers snapped back, before continuing his chat with Trump.
When the interview concluded, Piers could be heard saying: “Appreciate it.”
It seems that the interview ended amicably – which is far from what the trailer suggested.
The publication also reported that Trump has now released a statement, where he says: “Piers Morgan, like the rest of the Fake News Media, attempted to unlawfully and deceptively edit his long and tedious interview with me.
“He wanted to make it look like I walked out on the interview when my time limit of 20 minutes went over by an hour.
“The good news is that the interview was taped by us as a means of keeping him honest.”
Later on in the statement he added: “For those who want to make Piers look bad, compare his video promo and how it was doctored to the real thing.
“Hopefully they will now be doing some big changes to their final product.
“It just shows, however, what I have to deal with in the Fake News Media. He went out of his way to deceptively edit an interview and got caught. That is a big story, isn’t it?”
Piers has had his say too when he wrote an opinion piece for the New York Post: “Trump tried to end things by declaring, ‘That’s it!’ before I reminded him that we hadn’t discussed his hole-in-one, which he then sat down again and did — briefly — before abruptly jumping to his feet, looking hateful, and barking at the shocked crew: ‘TURN THE CAMERAS OFF’.”
