EastEnders Janine Butcher's exes now – Collapsing offstage, secret son and tragic loss

EastEnders fan favourite villain Janine Butcher finally landed one more man after tying the knot with Mick Carter on Christmas Day – but her secrets were soon exposed.

Mick has seemingly died after jumping in the water to save Linda and Janine, and Janine has now been arrested after the truth was exposed about the crash which Linda was blamed for.

Janine has finally got her comeuppance after being whisked away to jail in her exit scenes after actress Charlie Brooks confirmed her exit from the BBC One soap.

It’s no surprise that Janine’s return to Albert Square has included a scandal involving a man, with her marriages to Barry Evans and Michael Moon resulting in some of the soap’s most memorable storylines.

Following her exit from the soap, Daily Star looks back on where the actors who played Janine Butcher’s exes are now – from Barry Evans to Archie Mitchell.

Shaun Williamson – Barry Evans

Shaun Williamson was involved in one of EastEnders most famous plot-lines in 2004, when after 10 years on Albert Square, he was pushed off a cliff by wife Janine Butcher – not long after the pair had tied the knot.

Since then, Shaun has not left our screens, appearing in TV programmes including Ricky Gervais sitcom Extras, Casualty, New Tricks, Moving On, Mister Winner and BBC’s Porridge reboot.

He has also taken part in a number of reality TV programmes including Celebrity Big Brother, MTV’s Celebrities on the Farm, Britains Brightest Celebrity Family and Al Murray’s Great British Pub Quiz.

Barry has even taken his love for quiz games online during the lock down in 2020, hosting a free weekly family quiz on YouTube.

That’s not all, as he delighted fans when he took to the stage in Croydon earlier this year to perform a medley of hits ahead of England’s first match in the Euro 2020, including hits such as Sweet Caroline.

Fans took to Twitter to share their love for Shaun, with one saying: “Shaun Williamson is a national treasure and should be protected at all costs.”

Another said: “Rome had Andrea Bocelli, Boxpark Croydon had Barry from Eastenders,” while a third added: “Croydon has peaked.”

Outside of acting, Shaun has two children with ex-wife Melanie Sacre and has been married to Adele Seager since 2018.

He also told The Sun on Sunday that he recently found out that he had another child, who he had fathered with a circus performer over 30 years ago, and that he found out when his son emailed him out of the blue.

He said: “When I found out I had another son, I was stunned. I was shaking when I went to meet him.

“He said he never thought in a million years that Barry from EastEnders could be his dad.”

Larry Lamb – Archie Mitchell

Janine met her match in Archie Mitchell, after the two become embroiled in various schemes during their time on Albert Square together and eventually were engaged.

Things took a turn for the worse though, when Archie accused Janine of trying to defraud him along with flatmate (and future husband) Ryan Malloy, and he kicked her out of The Queen Vic.

However, Archie eventually met his end when the bust of Queen Victoria in the pub was pushed off the shelf and hit him, leaving him with fatal injuries.

Like a lot of EastEnders actors who have left the soap, Larry has continued to work in TV, appearing on programmes such as New Tricks, Mount Pleasant and Gavin and Stacey.

He also has four children and has been married twice – first to Anita H.Wisbey from 1969-1979 and then to Linda E. Martin from 1979-1996.

Earlier this year, Larry also opened up about his brother’s death from cancer in 2009, telling This Morning hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford that he slept in the same room as his brother in the hospice so that he could be close to him.

He also revealed an emotional moment between the two, with Larry saying: “He went like this [pointing at his mouth] and I said, ‘What, you want a kiss?’ and he went [nodding his head].

“And so we kissed each other and I felt his hand go around the back of my head and my hand went around the back of his head and we were stroking each other like little monkeys, just like when we were boys but he was just over 70 and me over 70.”

Neil McDermott – Ryan Malloy

Neil McDermott played Janine Butcher’s second husband Ryan Malloy, who during his time on the square, fathered a baby with Stacey Slater and was revealed as Whitney Dean’s half brother.

After ending his relationship with Janine and trying to kill her in hospital, Ryan later starts relationships with Lauren and the last time the character was seen in Walford, he told Whitney that he was engaged to a prison officer called Helen.

Since leaving EastEnders, Ryan has continued to act in TV Programmes such as Doctor Who and is currently appearing in the stage musical of Pretty Woman.

In real life, he has been married to his wife Michelle Edwards since 2007 and the couple have two children together.

According to website IMDB, Michelle gave birth to their first child on the same day that Stacey Slater gave birth to Ryan’s baby in EastEnders.

Steve John Shepherd – Michael Moon

Steve John Shepherd played villain Michael Moon in EastEnders, who aside from marrying Janine Butcher, also had an affair with Kat Slater with who he had son Tommy.

However, he was murdered in 2013 by Janine Butcher, who then tried to frame Alice Branning for his murder, before it was revealed that he had become another husband to have been murdered by Janine.

Talking about his time on EastEnders after playing Michael for three years from 2010-2013, Steve told The Evening Standard: “I don’t miss it (EastEnders). It was extremely intense.

“I worked as hard as I could and then I wanted to go and I did.

“I don’t have time to watch it now but I miss the people and enjoyed working there.”

Steve John Shepherd revealed he nearly died after collapsing before a theatre show

Since leaving Albert Square, Steve has appeared in theatre productions including Albion at the Bush Theatre.

However, he revealed to The Evening Standard that he nearly died from an internal haemorrhage before taking to the stage for the production, after explaining that he had been feeling “curious all day.”

He added that he collapsed in front of his wife Anna Wilson Jones, who he has been married to since 2004, and their three children, saying “I could feel myself dying.”

Since recovering, Steve has also appeared in TV programmes including Hetty Feather, 2015 film Christmas Eve and drama series Shakespeare and Hathaway: Private Investigators.
