EastEnders to close Queen's Jubilee episode with royal twist on iconic theme tune

EastEnders will air a special Jubilee episode on Thursday, with residents of Albert Square set to enjoy a visit from Charles and Camilla.

The show will also feature a royal adaptation of the soap’s classic theme tune during the end credits in celebration of the Queen’s 70 years on the throne.

She is the first British monarch to reach the milestone.

The new theme tune was written by Simon May, who composed the original.

During the Jubilee episode of the long-running BBC soap, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will hold a street party for residents in honour of the monarch’s historic reign.

A teaser clip shows the couple pulling up in a car beside The Queen Vic pub as they are greeted by Mick Carter, played by Danny Dyer.

Mick says: “Welcome to Walford.”

Mick and Linda Carter, played by Kellie Bright, then introduce the royal guests to their community.

Newly released images also show Linda presenting a cake which is cut by Camilla.

Charles and Camilla filmed the scenes back in March when they visited the new Elstree set, meeting the cast and crew.

Chris Clenshaw, the show’s executive producer, said: “To have Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall not only visit us all in Walford, but to also appear in an episode, we felt it was only right that we marked this extremely momentous episode with a fitting tribute.”

He added: “What better way than to wish their royal highnesses on their way from Albert Square than with a special Jubilee version of our iconic theme tune, remastered by the very talented Simon May.”
