Ellen DeGeneres admits to having 'no recollection' of first meeting with Meghan Markle

Ellen DeGeneres, 64, has admitted that she has no recollection of her first meeting with Meghan Markle, 40.

The talk show host, whose long-running US show ended this week, is good friends with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, with Archie and Lilibet reportedly calling her “auntie”.

Meghan and Ellen spend time together in Los Angeles and Ellen even poked fun at her friend when she became engaged to Prince Harry five years ago.

She said: “Her name is Meghan Markle, she’s from Los Angeles, she’s an actress, she’s been on General Hospital, she’s been on CSI New York.

“And this is true – she was once the holder of case 24 on Deal or No Deal.”

Meghan says she adopted a dog because Ellen told her to

Meghan has previously spoken of how her first encounter with Ellen led to her adopting a dog.

She was visiting an animal shelter when Ellen, who was with her wife Portia de Rossi, encouraged her to adopt her Labrador Shepherd mix Bogart.

She told Best Health in 2017: “Now, I don’t know her, but Ellen goes ‘Is that your dog?’

“And I said, ‘No,’ and she’s like, ‘You have to take that dog.’ And I said, ‘Well, I’m deciding.’ And she’s like, ‘Rescue the dog!'”

Meghan added: “And she walks outside to get into her car but instead of getting in she turns around and comes and taps on the window glass and she yells ‘Take the dog!’ And so I brought him home. Because Ellen told me to.”

Ellen doesn’t remember the chat and said: “That’s amazing. I mean, she adopted a dog because I told her to.

“I don’t even remember the story actually, but obviously she does and she does whatever I tell her to do, so Meghan if you’re watching, I have something else to tell you – invite me to that wedding.”

The pair eventually became close friends and Ellen visited Meghan and Harry after they welcomed son Archie.

She added: “They are two of the most down-to-earth compassionate people, they’re doing so much good for the world.”
