Emmerdale's Sally Dexter says Faith Dingle ending was 'euphoric' but left her with guilt

Emmerdale star Sally Dexter has opened up about her exit as Faith Dingle.

The 62-year-old actress has recently filmed her heartbreaking exit from the ITV soap as Faith lost her battle to cancer.

She took her own life after discovering her terminal disease had spread to her brain.

Determined not to lose her faculties, Faith took a number of pills before slipping away in emotional scenes.

Opening up about her exit, Sally, who played Faith on and off for five years, told Daily Star at the Inside Soap Awards: “It’s quite a euphoric feeling in some ways.

“But then there’s a slightly guilty feeling because you know that people are really going through this. This is real and it matters.”

“It felt like the most enormous privilege to do it and with such fantastic people around me and such a wonderful team. It just felt like an honour.”

It appears that things didn’t quite go to plan during the recording of the heartbreaking scenes as an unexpected visitor made an appearance.

Sally said: “When Lucy [Pargeter who plays Chas Dingle] first came in to find me dead, she knocked on the door to open it but couldn’t come in.

“When we were filming that, she knocked on the door once and there was an answering knock, and we were filming this in a house that was meant to be haunted and this happened twice.

“I was dead but I was kind of sinking off into a subconsciousness and when she did that and I heard the answering knock, I wanted to say come in. So we had to stop and start again twice.

“Lucy said ‘Did anybody else hear that?’ and we all said yes.”

Emmerdale walked away with an incredible collection of new accolades after a bumper year at the Inside Soap Awards on Monday (October 17).

The ITV soap beat out its rivals Coronation Street, EastEnders and Hollyoaks to scoop the most awards at the star-studded ceremony.

But it lost out on one major gong to its BBC counterpart, as Walford-based EastEnders was awarded the Best Soap award overall.

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV at 7.30pm
