Eurovision fans beg 'keep James Corden away from contest' as star announces UK return

He’s been a huge hit with American audiences as host of The Late Late Show since 2015.

Yet despite persuading Adele, Ed Sheeran, Madonna, Michelle Obama and many more to play a game of Carpool Karaoke, it seems that some of James Corden’s fellow Brits aren’t overjoyed at the news he’s moving back to the UK.

People are already worried that he may get his mitts on one of 2023’s most sought-after presenting gigs – the Eurovision Song Contest.

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which organises Eurovision, said on Friday (June 17) that they had come to the conclusion that it would not be possible to hold the 2023 contest in Ukraine.

James is leaving The Late Late Show

Their statement read: “As a result of this decision, in accordance with the rules and to ensure the continuity of the event, the EBU will now begin discussions with the BBC, as this year’s runner-up, to potentially host the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest in the United Kingdom.”

The Eurovision organisers reached their decision after conducting a “full assessment and feasibility study”.

Ukraine, who won this year’s contest, has already said it is not happy with the decision and says it believes it will be able to guarantee security for the competition, despite the threat of ongoing Russian invasion.

The UK’s Sam Ryder was the runner-up in this year’s Eurovision

While no final decision has yet been made, Twitter users have already expressed the most pressing concern if the UK does host the event.

“Is it too soon to start a petition to stop James Corden from hosting #Eurovision in the UK next year?” asked one, in a tweet which has already attracted nearly 4,000 likes.

Another said: “The only worrying thing about the U.K. hosting Eurovision is the potential for James Corden to host it.”

James has been a hit in the States

A third tweeted: “Just started crying because James Corden is coming back to the U.K. the same year they’re hosting Eurovision.”

In April, Corden, 43, announced that he would be stepping down from CBS’ The Late Late Show in spring 2023.

A petition was started on Change.org earlier this week, aimed at keeping Corden from returning to the UK.
