Singer Sam Ryder has shared his take on what it’s been like to be a UK entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2022.
The 32-year-old quickly became a TikTok sensation during the coronavirus pandemic, winning famous fans from the likes of Sia and Justin Bieber.
Sam who hails from Maldon gained more than 12 million followers on the platform through his covers which proved to be a massive hit.
The star is now preparing to represent the United Kingdom on a night that could make or break his career.
Talking about his experience so far, Sam said: “Now that I’ve been in the Eurovision hurricane for a few weeks, it is true what they say: there is no experience like Eurovision.
“It’s bonkers. It’s incredible and beautiful.”
Sam will perform his song Space Man at the contest’s grand final in Turin, Italy on May 14.
Just like every year, the BBC will be broadcasting the event across their platforms.
Director of Entertainment, Kate Phillips said: “The BBC continues to be the home of Eurovision in the UK, across TV, Radio and Online, and this year it’s set to be bigger and better than ever.
“We’re excited to welcome the semi-finals back to BBC Three before the Grand Final itself live on BBC One and Radio 2, where we’ll announce the points of the UK national jury live from Salford for the first time ever.”
The UK hasn’t been doing very well in Eurovision Song Contests over the last few years despite the fantastic representation.
Last year, James Newman scored no points with his upbeat song Embers.
Taking to Twitter a day after the results, the singer explained that he wants to focus on the “positives”.
He expressed: “I want to focus on the positives of this amazing experience. I stood on a stage and sang to hundreds of millions of people with a song that I wrote and love.
“I’ve learnt so much from the amazing people who gave everything to help me live my dream, the dancers, my choreographer, my vocal coach, everyone from my label, my manager and the BBC, and all the people behind the scenes at Eurovision and the arena.
“All these people are the best in the business and I got the chance to work with them and share this crazy experience that I’m so lucky to have the chance to do.”
