Gemma Owen's Love Island stint might not be 'ideal' says Michael's pal Jermaine Jenas

Jermaine Jenas has warned Gemma Owen’s Love Island stint might have been the wrong move.

The ex-footballer, 39, who is pals with her dad Michael, 42, reckons the show could be a “wrong step”.

He said: “From what I’ve seen, Gemma has done well and I think some people on social media have been too harsh.

“She might go on to do great things and this might be her first step towards doing that.

“It might not be the ideal step, but it might be a step.”

Former Newcastle and Spurs ace Jermaine said he plans to rib Michael next time he sees him

He added: “When I see Michael there will be a bit of winding up.”

Jermaine admits he would be worried if one of his children wanted to sign up for Love Island.

The Match of the Day pundit, who is dad to Sancha, 14, Geneva, nine, Jacob, eight, and Olivia, five, says he would voice “concerns”.

He said: “If my daughter came to me and said, ‘I want to go on Love Island’, I would probably voice my concerns because of the scrutiny involved.

“But if she thinks she can handle it, I would say, ‘Go and enjoy yourself, as long as you know what’s coming’.

“I’m not stupid enough to say, ‘I’d be fuming’. One thing I’ve learned growing up in dressing rooms is that if you say, ‘I don’t want my daughter to do this’. all that does is push them away. I want all my kids to be honest with me.”

Gemma Owen is one of the original islanders from the 2022 series of the show, with the brunette beauty currently coupled up with Luca Bish.

The star has rarely mentioned her dad on the famous ITV2 show, with only a brief reference to him when she was in the Beach Hut.

While Gemma’s family haven’t spoken about her stint on the show in too much detail, fans remain hopeful that the football star will make an appearance during the infamous Meet the Parents segment.
