Gino D'Acampo slates Christmas dinner and slams Nigella Lawson in savage dig

The Wheel descended into chaos as celebrity chef Gino D’Acampo slammed British Christmas dinners and TV star Nigella Lawson’s cooking skills.

His appearance on the BBC One gameshow, hosted by comedian Michael McIntyre, left the cast and audience in shock after he told the presenter how he spends his Christmas day.

Michael quizzed him about “Christmas in the D’Acampo household” and Gino replied: “Beautiful, all of the family together. We don’t do all the stuff you guys, you know…I don’t like the idea of plates with everything on it.”

The cast and audience gave a shocked gasp before the chef continued: “I’ve never understood that, you guys! You have turkey, vegetable, potato, sprouts and then you cover everything with this gravy! The problem is, everything tastes like gravy! Sprouts taste like gravy, turkey tastes like gravy!”

McIntyre then asked what he likes to eat on Christmas day and the Italian chef told him he prefers “fish and seafood,” but drew the line at crackers and admitted he has “banned” them.

Michael then jokingly asked whether Gino likes Christmas at all before they moved on to play the game.

McIntyre’s festive question asked the contestants which temperature Nigella Lawson suggests to preheat the oven at before roasting potatoes and Gino spent a while deliberating over the answer.

He went with 210 degrees centigrade, which turned out to be wrong – and left Gino with a sour taste in his mouth.

D’Acampo then slammed the chef and joked: “See? This is why Nigella knows nothing about cooking potatoes.”

Fans were divided over Gino’s Christmas slander and took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

One viewer wrote: “Can we swap Gino for Nigella, now?”

Another defended the star and tweeted: “I relate to Gino, I don’t like Christmas either.”

The correct answer was 230 degrees centigrade and unfortunately Gino was sent back down the studio floor.

He was then replaced by Bear Grylls, dressed in a festive jumper and Scouts-style neckerchief.

Michael welcomed the survivalist to the show and joked that he looked very cosy and called him “Cosy Bear”.

McIntyre then joked that “Cosy Bear” would be his nickname for him if they were very close friends.
