Heartbeat actor looks completely unrecognisable after shunning fame for quiet life

ITV’s Heartbeat star Nick Berry looks worlds away from his former self after leaving his acting career and fame behind him.

The 58-year-old no longer appears in the public eye having resigned from acting in 2003 with his last role as Liam Ketman saw Nick star alongside Stephen Tompkinson in the BBC One drama, In Deep, Nick made an appearance in EastEnders back in 2012.

However, Nick decided to walk away from his life as one of TV’s biggest names and became a full-time dad to his two children, Louis and Finley.

Despite his career starting in 1976 in BBC2 Playhouse, Nick received his big break when he took on the role of Simon Wicks in EastEnders before going on to appear in Heartbeat.

Nowadays, he looks completely different to what viewers are used to seeing as he went about his day-to-day business.

The former soap star opted for a green jacket, a scarf and jeans as he displayed his silver locks before getting into his red Land Rover alongside his dog.

His silver fox look is dramatically different to his days as PC Nick Rowan in the Yorkshire based TV soap, Heartbeat, where he was famed for his youthful complexion and jet black locks.

Having appeared in the drama for six years, he later left his role after being promoted to Sargeant and appeared in the BBC One series, Harbour Lights.

Nick returned to Heartbeat for a one-off episode in 2002, focusing on his new career as a Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer.

Speaking about his decision to shun the spotlight, speaking to the Daily Mail in 2011, he said: “I chose to be a stay-at-home dad and have loved it.

“I always said that when the boys were teenagers I could go back, but the longer you don’t do something the harder it is to do it, and I haven’t really missed it, while I’d never say never, I’m genuinely happy as I am.

“[Being an actor] The job was great, you’re driven everywhere, fed every five minutes and told what to do and where to go, what I struggled with was that the boys were very young and I felt like I was away filming all the time.

During his time in EastEnders actor took on the role of Simon Wicks in EastEnders between 1985 and 1990, before making an appearance again in 2012 at the funeral of his mum, Pat Evans (Pam St Clement).

His return was all but short-lived after filming his episode just one day before it aired, which saw Simon laying flowers on Pat’s grave after jetting in from New Zealand.
