I'm A Celeb's Boy George says arrest for imprisoning escort was 'wake-up call'

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! star Boy George has spoken out about his criminal conviction “for the last time”.

The musician, who is best known for his time in band Culture Club, was grilled on his arrest by Scarlette Douglas during his time in the jungle.

While he refused to say too much on the matter during his camp stint, George has now spoken out about the criminal conviction after he was arrested and sentenced for imprisoning escort Audun Carlsen.

Speaking to The Sun, he said he was prosecuted on his own evidence after telling police he’d handcuffed him because he thought he could tell the truth and go home.

George explained there was “naivety”, but added: “I was on a lot of drugs.”

He said he doesn’t hate the man or wish him any harm, but added: “I’m like, move on with your life because I have.”

The star said while he was sitting in his jail cell he knew he needed to fix his life and when he left prison and apologised to his mum, he was told to just “stay sober”.

George added: “I’ve apologised and been sober since.”

The star then vowed to never discuss the situation again just weeks after he was questioned by co-star Scarlette in the jungle.

At the time she asked: “What happened with you and some guy in handcuffs and a radiator?”, but George clarified that a radiator wasn’t involved in the incident.

But speaking in the Bush Telegraph, he made it very clear that he wasn’t happy with her line of questioning, saying: “Scarlette blatantly talked about my court case. I thought it was inappropriate what she did, actually.

“I thought she shouldn’t have said what she said to me. And I thought I handled it really well as it’s a big sore point for me when people say things like that.”

Boy George was convicted of assault and false imprisonment in December 2008 and given a 15 month sentence one month later, which he served four of due to good behaviour.

The star declared he got clean on March 2, 2008, at his first Narcotics Anonymous meeting, almost one year after the assault occurred.
