Jim Carrey awards clip kiss on Alicia Silverstone resurfaces after he slams Will Smith

Jim Carrey is facing a backlash over his comments on Will Smith after an old clip showing him kissing Alicia Silverstone at an awards show resurfaced.

The Mask star, 60, has shared his thoughts on Will’s outburst at the Oscars, saying that the actor should have been arrested for slapping Chris Rock on stage.

“I would have announced this morning that I was suing Will for $200m because that video is going to be there forever,” he said in an interview on CBS This Morning.

However, an old video showing Jim planting a smacker on Alicia’s lips at the 1997 MTV Movie Awards has now emerged online.

And some fans are calling the star out on his behaviour, saying it wasn’t really appropriate.

The clip from the MTV Awards shows Clueless star Alicia – who would have been around 20 at the time – announcing that Jim had won the best comedic performance for The Cable Guy.

The then 35-year-old star then walked on to the stage to collect his gong and kissed Alicia on the lips.

“Only two words for you dude: Alicia Silverstone… keep your mouth closed instead,” one person posted on Twitter.

“Jim Carrey needs to sit this one out,” said another, claiming that the star had his own “very inappropriate” awards show moment.

“Don’t touch anyone without permission, award ceremonies or not don’t do it,” another person advised.

Will made headlines everywhere when he stormed on stage at Sunday night’s Oscars and slapped Chris, after the comedian made a crack about the star’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head.

The star – who went on to win the best actor Oscar for the movie King Richard that night – has since apologised, saying his behaviour was “unacceptable and inexcusable”.

Discussing the incident on CBS This Morning, Carrey revealed he wasn’t happy with the reaction when Will won his gong.

“I was sickened by the standing ovation,” he said.

“Hollywood is just spineless en masse and it really felt like this is a really clear indication that we aren’t the cool club any more.”
