Kate Garraway scolds Ben Shephard as he brutally mocks GMB guest minutes before chat

Ben Shephard took a cheeky swipe at Michael Ball on Good Morning Britain as he interviewed his close pal Alfie Boe and Sarah Brightman.

During Friday’s instalment of the popular ITV breakfast show, the 47-year-old and his co-host Kate Garraway welcomed the professional singers onto the show to discuss their latest collaboration to mark the Platinum Jubilee next month.

The pair teamed up to share their remake and stellar duet of the national anthem God Save The Queen and hope that their new track will reach number one to mark Her Royal Highness’ 70th year on the throne.

But the dad-of-three couldn’t help but bring up his West End pal as he asked whether the star has been coping well after being left out of the epic duet.

After discussing the new single, Sarah apologised to Michael on air which led to the TV presenter asking what he thought of their hit song.

He pointed out: “There’s an elephant in the room, or not in the room as it were” which was met with a swarm of ‘Ohhs’ in the studio at the scathing remark on air.

Kate warned him: “Ohhh he won’t like that” before she added: “Oh Michael I don’t think you’re an elephant.”

As he awkwardly chuckled at her scolding comment, he apologised to the star, adding: “I didn’t mean it like that, it’s a common phrase.”

Attempting to rescue Ben from the awkward moment, brunette beauty Sarah interjected with: “He’s a cuddly bear” which the broadcaster agreed before he moved on with the topic.

But his 55-year-old co-star wasn’t quick to forget his comment as she concluded the interview saying: “I don’t think you’re in his good books.”

He moved on to ask: “Boe and Brighton has a good ring to it – how does Mr Ball feel about this?”

Alfie joked: “He’s having sleepless nights. He calls me in the middle of the night crying heartbroken.”

In an attempt to make up with the tenor singer, Ben hinted that he could join the duo in the future.

He added: “At least an invite as well. I mean, Ball, Boe and Brighton, that’s a ring.”
