Kate Lawler praised for putting 'family first' after quitting job in emotional statement

Kate Lawler has been praised by fans after announcing she has quit her job as a host at Virgin Radio after an incredible six years.

Fans rushed to compliment the presenter, 41, after she decided to focus on her mental health and on being a mum after being dashed to hospital for a mystery illness last week.

The Drivetime host was rushed to hospital after a “strange day” that saw her seek treatment from healthcare professionals.

And now she has announced she is stepping back from the programme to focus on herself and her daughter Noa, though the door is “open” for her to return in future.

Taking to Instagram, the presenter said: “Some news… This will be my last week on @virginradiouk Drivetime after SIX wonderful years with the station.

“It’s not been an easy decision for me to make and I know that I’ll return to radio broadcasting in the future but right now, it’s time to take a break.

“Thank you to the bosses of Virgin Radio for being incredibly understanding and supportive of my decision and for holding the door open when the time is right to come back.

“I’ve loved working here over the past six years and I’m so grateful they wanted to make returning to work for me as easy as possible and allowed me to work flexibly, three days a week.

“I really tried to make it work while juggling lots of other projects and being a Mother, however right now, it’s no longer possible to continue the way I have been.”

The Big Brother star added that she wants to be “more present” as a mum and spend as much time as possible with Noa before the tot starts nursery.

And Kate went on to cite her mental health as another reason for the step, explaining that she couldn’t spend enough time with her daughter while on maternity leave “because of mental health issues and taking on too much other work outside of radio”.

Supportive fans rushed to the comments section, with one praising her: “Congratulations @thekatelawler – family and health first!”

Another added: “HUGE congratulations lady. I KNOW how hard that decision is, you’ve done the right thing. Sending you so much love and you will SMASH whatever you do next. Loads of love.”

As a third followed up: “Don’t underestimate what a big deal it is that you’ve stopped and worked out what success would look like for YOU right now.”

“Huge respect to you @thekatelawler for this decision. It’s all about life balance,” someone else reminded her.

Her last show will be tomorrow, Wednesday March 30.

It comes as Kate vowed to “make some changes” after her hospital dash – which she described as a “wake up call”.

She explained on Instagram last week: “Yesterday was pretty strange. Long story but I ended up in hospital.

“Got home at 9pm and feeling much better today. I need to make some changes in order to feel better, both mentally and physically.

“But it’s easy to forget to look after yourself when you’re juggling so much. Still, it’s given me a wake up call.”
