Kym Marsh to Gary Lineker – celebs who brutally shut down Masked Singer theories

The third series of The Masked Singer UK kicked off on New Year’s Day with plenty of celebs dressing up and singing their hearts out.

Despite it being difficult to work out who is behind the mask, some people have managed to work it out in past series.

The aim of the programme is for the line-up of stars to hide their identities to try to stump viewers and the panel while they sing on stage.

Some contestants have already been revealed including Gloria Hunniford as Snow Leopard and Heather Small as Chandelier.

However, there are still plenty of people to reveal their identities and the predictions are already flooding in.

Celebrities in the past have denied taking part in the show but have eventually been rumbled.

Joel Dommett has returned as the host for the current series of The Masked Singer along with judges Davina McCall, Rita Ora, Jonathan Ross and Mo Gilligan.

However, it seems that Joel is getting involved with hinting who could be behind the masks.

The 34 year old has suggested that in the past celebrities have lied about taking part until they have been revealed due to the programme being pre-recorded.

During the 2020 series Joel made it clear that one person accused was lying about taking part.

In the first series, Joel told The Sun: “I saw someone who is on the show saying it wasn’t them. Which is interesting.”

Kym Marsh

The 2021 series of The Masked Singer saw actress Kym Marsh accused of being one of the contestants however she denied these claims.

Fans thought Kym could be taking part dressed as Seahorse but she told her followers to ‘guess again’.

At the time she tweeted: “Everyone asking if I am on Masked Singer. No sorry, Guess again guys xx”

However, her friend Lisa Riley wasn’t convinced and thought she could be Harlequin instead.

Lisa responded to Kym’s tweet saying: “Babes I’m not surprised… I said to Al last night… that’s Kim as Harlequin. Are you sure it’s not you?”

However, viewers were wrong as Seahorse turned out to be Mel B after being voted out after just one performance.

Seahorse first performed in episode two as they sang a cover of Kylie’s Can’t Get You Out of My Head.

Gary Lineker

The most recent series has seen former footballer Gary Lineker be accused of singing on the show.

Viewers thought Doughnut could be Gary due to the hints to the world of sport, especially football and then to seal the deal crisps were also mentioned.

Gary is best known for his football career but for also appearing in the Walkers Crisps adverts.

Despite multiple fans expressing their thoughts that Doughnut had to be Gary, he quipped back on Twitter: “You’ll never see me on that show… or Strictly, ever.”

However, some people thought the football related hints could be a nod to Liverpool FC legend Michael Owen.

One fan said: “Pretty sure Doughnuts is Micheal Owen, 150 on the oven… 150 Goals in the Premier League, Jockey… Owns the horse Flaming Rib.”

As another wrote: “I think the crisps is too obvious a clue. Maybe one who had a packet named after them like Michael Owen.”

Chris Moyles

Radio host Chris Moyles recently hit out at the theories that he could secretly be character Doughnuts in a furious rant.

Rita Ora had wondered if the former BBC Radio 1 host could be behind the costume, which he didn’t take kindly to.

He said: “Well, I was offered up as a potential masked singer, as in, one of the judges said, ‘I think it’s Chris Moyles’.”

Chris sniped: “None of this is fun for me. The one they think I am is the Doughnut. Sizeist.

“Get stuffed! You shove your Masked Singer.

“Is it Chris Moyles? Shove it! How rude!” as he played a video of Doughnuts singing on the show.

Actor Alan brutally shut down rumours that he is the person behind Bagpipes, insisting it most certainly isn’t him.

On Jan 2, he took to social media to stop viewers speculating about the Scottish character, as many said they thought it could be the Scottish actor, who has starred in Spy Kids and The Good Wife.

He posted: “Newsflash: I am not on @MaskedSingerUK nor will I ever be. Thank you.”
