Neighbours real-life “neighbours” are thrilled the Aussie soap is being axed.
Householders living on the street where the show is filmed have had enough after 37 years.
They say their lives have been hell having to put with tourists turning up and looking for Kylie Minogue, Margot Robbie and Olympia Valance.
The quiet cul-de-sac called Pin Oak Court, in Vermont South, Melbourne, has been doubling up for Ramsay Street.
This is where the cast who include Stefan Dennis and Alan Fletcher film their outside scenes. The interiors are shot inside a TV studio.
Over the years, the residents have had to endure disruption from die hard soap fans, passing tourist traffic and blocked roads.
They also have to keep the cul-de-sac in pristine condition.
Pin Oak Court resident and tennis coach Rob Lewis said: “There are perks that come with living on the Neighbours street, but there are many downsides.
“It’s been a big deal and a detriment. We’ve had tourists and visitors all over the street.
“There is security to stop any problems, but it’s something we’ve all gotten used to.”
Asked how he felt about the show being axed, Mr Lewis added: “It wouldn’t faze me. I don’t watch the show to be honest.”
Another resident was more blunt in their reaction to the possibility of production ceasing, saying: “We’ll get our street back. Peace and quiet.”
Neighbours, which was launched in 1985, airs on Network 10 in Australia.
The show has been part funded by Channel 5 in the UK but they have now announced they will end their deal later this year.
Unless a new backer can be found, the soap will be axed for good.
Channel 5’s statement read: ‘It’s been a much-loved part of our schedule for more than a decade, and we’d like to thank the cast, Fremantle and all of the production team for their fantastic work on this iconic series.
We’d also of course like to thank the fans for their loyal support of Neighbours across the years.
‘We recognise that there will be disappointment about this decision, however our current focus is on increasing our investment in original UK drama, which has strong appeal for our viewers.’
Cast members including Jason Donovan’s daughter Jemma recently attended a crisis meeting where they were told the bad news and many left looking tearful and upset.
The Australian soap is still popular in the UK pulling in 1.2million UK viewers per day.
