Michelle Keegan’s hubby Mark Wright has broken his silence after he reportedly ‘quit’ an upcoming ITV show by text, which subsequently left bosses “fuming”.
Speaking out for the first time since the rumours swirled, Mark has now said that he didn’t send a text, but in fact called the producers.
He also claims that he isn’t banned from ITV and is currently working on a new show with the channel, a comment that comes after The Sun claimed a source said: “His [Mark’s] reputation has gone massively downhill since he walked away from The Games.
“The only show they are happy for him to be on is Soccer Aid as he is one person in a sea of faces and has been a part of the event for years but in terms of new shows – Mark won’t be approached by ITV.”
Just weeks ago it was reported that the former TOWIE hunk, sent ITV producers a text telling them that he didn’t want to take part in the sports reality programme.
Taking to Instagram to put out his side of the story, Mark wrote: “Refrained from commenting on this nonsense story for over a week because it’s nonsense and there’s plenty much more important stories to worry about in the world.
“Because it’s constantly being repeated, here’s my comment.
“I’m absolutely not banned from ITV, in fact I’m doing a show for ITV three months from now.
“The show that ‘I quit’ hadn’t even signed a contract for!
“I ‘called’ the producer not text to tell her I’d had a change of heart on the show because I realised I’d had too many other commitments already to make it work.
“The media outlet who wrote this are not to blame. They can only believe what the person who is making this up is telling them.”
When the reports swirled that the 35-year-old hunk had quit the show unexpectedly, ITV bosses were supposedly “furious” and “disappointed”.
Mark signed up for the new show earlier this year and just days before he reportedly sent a text to producers (Mark claims it was via phone call), he was filming for the show in Manchester on February 15.
The TOWIE legend was supposed to take part in The Games, which is a brand-spanking new sports show that will be hosted by Holly Willoughby and Freddie Flintoff, and will see 12 celebs take part in a variety of different athletic and sporty competitions.
At the time of Mark’s alleged withdrawal from the show, a source told The Sun: “He was in great spirits on the day in Manchester but the following morning he appeared to have had a change of heart.
“Mark’s excuse was that he was basically going to be too busy to commit, which to some feels absolutely incredulous given he’d already committed to filming.
“Those working on the show aren’t sure what is harder to swallow, the fact he dropped out so last minute or the fact he decided to send a text rather than call in the first instance.”
It is not known when The Games will air, but it is expected to do so on ITV later on in the year.
