Princess Diana once said she would not date Tom Cruise, it is claimed – because he was too short.
Former royal chef Darren McGrady says the princess and the actor met on the set of Mission: Impossible years ago.
Apparently she had taken her sons, William and Harry, to see the action film being made – which they “loved”.
But Darren claims that, after meeting Cruise, Diana joked she would take him “off the list” – because of his height.
The A-lister’s exact size is hard to pinpoint, but it is thought that he stands at around 5ft 7ins.
Darren, who cooked at Buckingham Palace for 11 years, said: “I remember Princess Diana taking the boys to the set of Mission Impossible and to meet Tom Cruise.
“Wills and Harry loved the pyrotechnics. But Princess Diana ‘That’s another one off the list Darren. He’s too short!’”
On a separate occasion, Diana allegedly told one royal biographer that Cruise was “extremely fanciable”.
In her 2007 book Diana: The Intimate Portrait, Judy wrote about the pair meeting at the premiere for his 1992 flick Far And Away, also starring Nicole Kidman.
Despite Diana’s doubts about dating Tom, he – along with fellow Hollywood actor Tom Hanks and director Steven Spielberg – attended the royal’s funeral in 1997.
At the time of her death, Tom said he was “devastated” and slammed the paparazzi following her – who were largely blamed for her death at the time.
He fumed back then: “They run lights and they chase you and harass you. It happens all over the world. And it has certainly gotten worse.”
Darren’s Twitter post came after it was revealed Cruise gave William and wife Kate Middleton an exclusive preview screening of his new Top Gun film.
He also took to the social media platform to wish Spencer actress Kristen Stewart luck at the Oscars last week, tweeting: “Wishing Kristen Stewart the best of luck tonight at the #Oscars!” alongside a snap of the pair posing together.
He added: “She is AMAZING as #PrincessDiana and deserves the @theacademy award.”
In the film, Darren was played by actor Sean Harris, while Twilight star Kristen took on the role of Princess Diana herself in the royal biopic – which saw her up for the Best Actress award.
Jessica Chastain, however, eventually took away the gong for her flick The Eyes of Tammy Faye.
