Robbie Williams reveals career is a 'fluke' as he never wanted to be a singer

Robbie Williams has revealed he never wanted to be a singer.

The Take That star has exclusively revealed to the Daily Star that he had planned to become an actor before his singing career took off.

Robbie said: “I thought I was going to become an actor. Singing seemed too obvious to me. I wanted to be an actor but in the sense of a showman, who can do a bit of comedy. But, I was lucky to land this audition and end up in a boy band.

“My career is a fluke because I was just looking for a break, and if I’d been offered the chance to be a TV presenter I wouldn’t be here talking about my latest album.”

Robbie has recently released a new album that features re-recordings of his best-loved songs, titled XXY album.

He also started a tour, began shooting a biopic based on his life and allowed cameras to follow him for a Netflix series due to air in 2023.

With the promise of more new music to follow – it’s safe to say that the next 25 years will be just as busy for Stoke’s most famous son.

Talking about the album, Robbie said: “These are the songs that have had the most success, so in a sense, it’s a compilation that you could call The Best of Robbie Williams. But these are above all pieces that have represented something at a specific moment in time, that’s why I wanted to give them a new existence.”

He was then drafted into Take That

He also opened up about his song-writing approach and revealed: “I try to tell stories, focus on the unique things that I do, but I must admit that ever since the start I’ve been a little disappointed in the way my work is perceived.

“Nobody has ever looked at my way of writing. I’ve never had an article mentioning my songs, it’s always brought back to starting out in the boy band, Take That.

“Harry Styles (ex-One Direction) suffers the same problems today – it’s as if we are incapable of writing anything. Angels can’t be mine, Rock DJ must’ve been written by Ian Dury.

“It’s really frustrating. Put yourself in my shoes – I’ve been doing this job for over twenty years, with decent results if I believe the public, but still without any real talent in the eyes of some.”
