S Club 7's Tina Barrett finally reveals story behind iconic barely-there dress

S Club 7 babe Tina Barrett has finally revealed the story behind the revealing dress she wore to the band’s movie premiere back in 2003.

The brunette beauty, who was in the group with Dancing On Ice’s Rachel Stevens, drew gasps from the crowd on the red carpet when she turned up to the band’s Seeing Double movie premiere in a barely-there dress.

Making her dramatic entrance in a stunning cut-out red dress by designer Scott Henshall, the floor-length gown consisted of only a wisp of chiffon held together with gold clasps.

Tina, who was 26 at the time, told The Metro: “I was saying I really wanted to wear one of those red carpet dresses as we had our premiere coming up for our movie, which was a big, big deal for all of us.”

She explained that designer Henshall encouraged her to “go for it” as she tried on the skimpy frock that bared all during the cold month of April.

“He showed me the dress and I was like, ‘where’s the rest of it?’ I thought he was joking. There’s nothing underneath it? So that’s it?

“Then I decided to try it on, and he was pinning it, and I was like, it’s not that bad. Then I just did it, I was like, you know what, what the hell. It’s an amazing dress, I’d been on tour so I felt like I could get away with it, I’d been working hard.”

Tina, now 44, wore the dress to the Leicester Square premiere in London and it was a tabloid sensation.

She said: “It just went mad. My phone was blowing up, saying ‘look in the papers, you’re everywhere’. It was pretty cool, actually.”

Set in Spain and LA, the movie plot revolves around a mad scientist who creates evil clones of the band in a bid to take over the world.

The group – which also included Hannah Speritt, 40, Jo O’Meara, 42, Rachel Stevens, 43, Jon Lee, 39 and Bradley McKintosh, 40 – announced they would be splitting two weeks later up after a farewell single and album, which came a few months after the premiere.

S Club 7 became a pop phenomenon with hits such as Bring it all Back and S Club Party, snagging three number one hits, a number one album, two Brit Awards and even a spin-off band – S Club Juniors, containing two future members of The Saturdays.

“You see pop stars on TV growing up and you think, wow, they have this amazing life where they’re sort of wafting around and singing and doing something fabulous and looking amazing all the time. And let me tell you, it’s not like that at all. It was a lot of hard work,” Tina said.
