Sally Lindsay slams 'fame-hungry' Coronation Street stars 'who only care about parties'

Former Coronation Street star Sally Lindsay has hit out at actors who she claims only join the show for fame and showbiz parties.

Sally, who played Sally Unwin on the ITV soap from 2001 until 2006, told in an interview how she thinks a lot of actors who join Corrie incorrectly reckon they are guaranteed fame after joining the show.

She said on the White Wine Question Time podcast: “A lot of people, when they join Coronation Street, think it’s all about being famous and… going to awards and that’s it, you’re made. And you’re not. You’re really not.”

The actress has appeared in a number of TV shows since leaving the soap, including The Madame Blanc Mysteries, as well as performing in various stage shows, being a panellist on Loose Women and presenting ITV quiz show Tenable.

In the interview, she opened up about being criticised for doing a variety of different jobs within the industry, adding she didn’t believe it wouldn’t happen to her male co-stars.

She said: “You know… you’ve got someone like Bradley Walsh, who does everything, and everyone goes, ‘Oh, that’s amazing!”

“If you do it, they’re like, ‘Aren’t you an actor though?’ Yeah, yeah, I am, I’m a really good one, but I can do that as well.”

Sally also told how she was left shocked while working on the soap after she was after body-shamed by a journalist.

She said: “I remember when I was first behind that [Rovers] bar and there was a journalist, I probably shouldn’t say who it was, I don’t know if he works any more.

“And he wrote an article in a well-known newspaper saying, ‘How can they put this fat, ugly woman in such a glamorous role?’

“I was 26, very vulnerable, didn’t know anything about the industry at all. I read it and I couldn’t get my head round it. I’d never even thought about my weight before then.”

Sally also told how she has relished her latest role as Jean White in The Madame Blanc Mysteries, where she serves as lead writer, alongside her Mount Pleasant co-star Sue Vincent,

She added: “I’ve always been fascinated by the worlds of antiques and Agatha Christie.

“So putting the two together and creating the world of St.Victoire with Sue has been an absolute joy.

“We are so excited to show the audience the stunning sunny locations and beautiful antiques cloaked in a veil of mystery and can’t wait for you to see what Jean unravels as she embarks on her new life in the sun.”
