Sam Ryder, the UK’s contestant for this year’s Eurovision, has an unassuming famous fan in Hollywood.
The Essex singer, 32, has racked up 12 million followers worldwide on TikTok and was snared as Eurovision’s British contestant.
Britain’s TikTok sensation became a bookies favourite to win on Saturday night (14 May) and has been showered with support for his amazing vocals.
He has revealed that he has a famous Hollywood movie star supporting him, none other than the legendary Jamie Lee Curtis.
Sam’s positive attitude and stunning vocals has touched the hearts of many, including Jamie Lee Curtis. He told of how “surreal” it is to have an “absolute legend” show him so much “support from day one.”
The famous American actress, 63, is famed for her portrayal of protagonist Laurie Strode in the iconic Halloween franchise. She appears in six of the Halloween movies alone.
It is thought Jamie Lee Curtis has a net worth of a whopping $60 million.
Sam told The Daily Star: “Jamie Lee Curtis has been so encouraging since day one, she is so lovely.
“She is an absolute legend; I hope to meet her one day and talk about music. She loves music and she is such an interesting woman.”
Sam added: “At the beginning it was surreal, the fact that she’s a fan of me will always be surreal.
“But I remind myself that everyone is just a person. We’re all going to be interested in different artists, just because someone is super well known.”
On Saturday night (14 May) Sam will perform in front of around 200 million people in total, as he sings his song Space Man.
The song was co-written by Ed Sheeran and Amy Wadge, and is a nod to pop legend’s David Bowie, Elton John and iconic band Queen.
Sam’s show stopping voice, is hoped to gain the UK in the very least a couple of points, after suffering so badly in previous years and not receiving any.
Bookmakers have named Sam as the second favourite to win on Saturday, as he performs live from Turin, Italy.
The UK has won Eurovision five times out of 63 contests. However, the UK has not won top spot since 1997, with Katrina and the Waves.
Ukraine ’s performers, Kalush Orchestra, are favoured to win this year with their song Stefania. However, if the Ukraine are destined to win this year’s competition, there are logistical issues of how the war torn country will be able to host in 2023 given the damage caused by Russian fighting.
Despite this, the Ukraine is no stranger to hosting Eurovision, after winning in 2016, the nation hosted the contest in 2017, just five years ago.
