Simon Cowell thinks that all singers in 2022 are doing the same thing, so has decided to look for music acts he likes rather than “successful” ones on Britain’s Got Talent.
The music mogul downsized his record label Syco earlier this year so he can focus on his TV work as well as spending more time with family
Taking a step away from spotting the next big chart topper, he has said that he now votes for singers that he would choose to listen to.
In an interview with The Sun, he explained how he judges singers differently now.
He said: “I think in the same way as you buy an album or a track, you like what you like.”
Simon explained how he finds it interesting how there are “so many outlets for singers” today, noting that social media platforms are at the forefront.
He then added: “Weirdly there aren’t a lot of new artists breaking out at the moment.”
The music mogul thinks that everybody is “doing the same thing” at the moment, which is why there aren’t many new artists breaking out.
He explained that he tried to encourage people to do different things, before adding that this is why he tries to advise people on Britain’s Got Talent to sing unique songs rather than ones he’s heard “a million times before”.
He then told the paper: “Britain’s Got Talent is an amazing platform for singers, you get it right, choose the right song and boy it can change your life overnight.
“We saw that with Susan Boyle and people like Calum Scott.”
This comes after the ITV talent show faced fix claims when Pittsburgh-born, New York-based Loren Allred auditioned on the first episode of the new series.
The 31-year-old American singer had already had a successful musical career and sung Never Enough in box-office smash-hit movie The Greatest Showman.
