The Chase viewers left baffled over contestant's age as she she takes on Anne Hegerty

The Chase viewers were left stunned as contestant Jo featured on the ITV game show on Friday night (July 1).

During tonight’s show, fans of the series – fronted by Bradley Walsh – were introduced to four new contestants hoping to win some cash.

Sharon, Dan, Jo and Will joined host Bradley, 61, in the studio ahead of their attempt to beat the Chaser.

But it wasn’t the team’s knowledge that caught the attention of viewers at home.

Instead, fans were left shocked as Jo revealed her age.

The 39-year-old legal billings clerk from Cheshire went up against Anne Hegerty, aka The Governess.

Opening up on her reason for taking part in the show, Jo explained: “I’ve got a big birthday coming up, so I think a party is in order.

“It will go towards that.”

The contestant managed to bag herself an impressive £6,000 in the cash-builder round, before going back to join her team for the final chase.

However, some viewers couldn’t help but claim that Jo looked slightly older than 39.

Taking to Twitter, one said: “Sorry, this woman is 39? Two years older than me?! *REALLY??* #NotConvinced #TheChase.”

Another added: “I think those contestants are lying about their age!! #TheChase.”

A third wrote: “She’s my age?! What?! #thechase.”

A fourth shared: “39 really??”

A fifth posted: “I’m sorry if she’s 39 then I’m the Queen of England #TheChase.”

However, others were more concerned over fellow contestant Dan failing to answer the questions.

“Dan looking very vacant. He hasn’t a clue what happened there,” one added.

While another complained: “Dan’s a disgrace… #TheChase.”

Meanwhile, it comes after The Chase star Jenny Ryan was forced to hit back at a troll on Twitter.

The quiz supremo, known as “The Vixen” on the ITV show, took issue after a viewer criticised her personality.

In the nasty comment, the user mentioned Jenny, writing: “Jenny the banterless does stand up comedy. What could possibly go wrong? Lol.”

The remark didn’t go unnoticed by Jenny, who later hit back: “Well, I already got one laugh out of you and I wasn’t even trying!”

The Chase airs at 5pm on ITV.
