The One Show suffers epic tech blunder as Morgan Freeman appears on BBC show

Baffled BBC viewers were left scratching their heads when Morgan Freeman’s interview on The One Show was ruined by an epic tech blunder.

The glitch meant viewers saw the same segment of the pre-recorded interview play twice, and some accused the show of not being “live”.

The legendary Hollywood actor, who is famed for iconic films like The Shawshank Redemption (1994), appeared on the BBC One programme on Friday night (February 4).

Show hosts Alex Jones and her co-star Ronan Keating were beyond excited to welcome such an A-List guest into the studio via video call.

However, their interview with the Oscar-winner was quickly derailed by the tech troubles which interrupted the chat.

Morgan had just been talking about his time shooting Shawshank Redemption, and Alex was about to move on to her next topic when the broadcast blunder cut the presenter off mid-sentence.

Speaking to Morgan, Alex started saying: “Your character narrates that film, including the big jailbreak scene which leads us nicely on to your new project…”

Before she could finish though, a random snap of a London bus appeared, and the pre-recorded interview started repeating itself.

Viewers then witnessed the start of the interview, where Alex welcomed Morgan to the show, saying: “Hello Morgan and welcome to The One Show…”

It also meant the initial clip of Morgan in Shawshank Redemption, which had just been shown, was played through a second time.

Gobsmacked fans didn’t understand what was going on, so they took to Twitter to point out the error.

One puzzled viewer wrote: “A bit of a glitch in the matrix there on @BBCTheOneShow”

A second asked: “what just happened on #theoneshow it repeated itself.”

A third wondered: “What happened there? How did that happen? Why did that happen? Will it leap forward next?”

Other viewers were confused and accused the show of not being live.

One viewer asked: “What happened? Thought it was live?”

“I always thought this was live? Not with the glitch that just happened for 2 mins”

“So I guess the one show isn’t live, then.”

However, the hosts had explained that their chat with Morgan was pre-recorded.

Speaking about Shawshank Redemption, Freeman confirmed it was filmed in an actual prison, but they built a cell block for the movie.

He said: “It was an abandoned reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio. We were not in the cells, though. The cells were pretty much condemned. They actually built the cell block.”

The actor is set to star in his latest TV show called Great Escapes – which premieres on 23 February.

The series sees Freeman look back at the biggest jailbreaks in history from the most notorious prisons in the world, including Alcatraz.
