Tom Cruise, 59, has said he and Prince William “have a lot in common” while on the red carpet for the UK movie premiere of Top Gun: Maverick.
William, 39, and Kate, 40, made their entrance at the premiere of the highly-anticipated sequel on Thursday (May 19).
Hollywood’s Tom also arrived on the red carpet in Leicester Square in a very sophisticated black tuxedo as he took centre stage.
Speaking about his respect for William, the Maverick star said he and the Royal figure share a lot of similarities, including their love for “flying.”
Tom said about their similarities: “We have a lot in common. We both love England and we’re both aviators. We both love flying.”
He adds that it feels “incredibly special” to have a premiere in Leicester Square and he feels very happy “after what we have all come through”.
The Hollywood actor reprised his role as hot-shot Navy lieutenant Maverick more than 30 years after the original film’s release.
The latest sequel to the film was originally due for release in July 2019 but was repeatedly pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Heartthrob Tom shared his excitement about being back on the red carpet, saying: “I love what I do, I’ve always enjoyed it and I’m enjoying it even more now.
“Particularly after the last couple of years, just to have an event like this is extraordinary.”
Sharing his experience about filming the monumental film, Tom banned alcoholic drinks and drinking on set while the cast and crew were on location for the movie.
The Hollywood star said: “There were days after a tough shoot that I could have really used a couple of beers but you just don’t want to be flying at those speeds hungover.”
Tom was in charge of the movie’s production visuals and was adamant he wanted to make the on-screen fighter pilot scenes as “authentic” as they could be.
The actor also didn’t let producers use special effects, instead leaving the experience up to the viewers themselves.
Top Gun: Maverick will be released in the UK and Ireland on May 27.
