A Place in the Sun host in denial as guests compare flat to coffin and halt viewing

A Place in the Sun guests called off a viewing after they got shivers from a “coffin-like” apartment.

Sally, from east Sussex, was looking for a white-washed holiday home in the sun-drenched Andulasian region of Spain.

Brining her best friend Tarek for help, Sally hoped to find a one-bed apartment within the budget of £65,000 to a maximum of £70,000.

Host Ben Hillman gathered a list of five stunning homes but the search was not off to a good start.

He took the pair to a town centre apartment with an alfresco space on the balcony and a semi open-plan kitchen.

“Alright, let’s get stuck into the living room, what do you think?” Ben asked.

Pal Tarek quickly commented on the shape of the apartment and said: “It’s actually shaped like a coffin. The walls are sort of closing in.”

“Oh no, Tarek! Of all the things you could have said!” Ben frowned. “That’s not what I want to hear! What do you think of that, Sally?”

Sally said: “I kind of agree, it is coffin-shaped.

“I have to see more of it but it doesn’t have much natural light. There is just something here that is just not calling me.”

Ben then asked the pair to go into the bedroom for a change of scene – but Tarek gave a big shudder.

He looked around the blue walls and the bunk bed, he said: “Ooh, shivers!”

Sally laughed nervously and added: “I think the overall felt like a coffin, I’m getting a tomb feeling in here.”

“This isn’t going well, is it?” Ben said, before taking the pair to the balcony to clear the air.

However, Sally preferred to stay in an Andulasian home with traditional Spanish details and stopped the viewing mid-way.

She reminded Ben that the importance of having a beautiful view.

“I think it’s got to be somewhere with a beautiful view that I can do morning yoga at the terrace, that would be lovely,” she added.
