BBC Breakfast’s Sally Nugent warned ‘you shouldn’t admit to those things’ by co-star

BBC Breakfast star John Watson teased Sally Nugent live on air as she opened up about her childhood dream.

Sally, 52, was back on the famous red sofa on Tuesday (December 19) morning alongside co-star Jon Kay and the pair woke up the nation with the latest news headlines from across the globe.

They welcomed sports journalist John to discuss the Shetland pony Grand National and Sally told her co-stars that she used to dream about taking part in the sporting event when she was a little girl.

As a clip of young riders putting a group of ponies through their paces aired, Sally said: “That was my dream when I was little, to be in the Shetland pony Grand National, never made it.” She added: “Someone in my ear just said ‘it’s never too late’, I think it is too late. I think that ship has sailed.” John joked to Sally: “You shouldn’t admit to those things, I’m sure there’s a Breakfast VT in there.”

It comes after Sally was was left red-faced when her beloved morning programme teased her upcoming ballroom routine for the Christmas special of Strictly Come Dancing. During Monday’s (December 18) visit to the BBC studios, the 52-year-old star welcomed viewers back to the show to discuss some of the biggest stories hitting the headlines.

However, it’s fair to say one of the most talked about story on the show was the Strictly Come Dancing final which saw former Coronation Street star Ellie Leach and her dance partner Vito Coppola lift the Glitterball Trophy. As the 2023 comes to an end, the beloved ballroom competition is set to return with a bang on Christmas Day for a festive special with another star-studded line-up – including BBC Breakfast star Sally.

Sally’s dance partner Graziano Di Prima appeared on the show as they teased their upcoming foxtrot. The brunette beauty could as elegant as ever as she danced across the famous ballroom with the Italian hunk. She could be seen wearing a glamorous red sequin gown which featured a dramatic asymmetrical strap and a daring thigh-high slit.

She teamed the ensemble with a pair of silver heels and added a dramatic silver hair pin to her hair which was pinned in a chic low bun at the nape of her neck. When asked about the experience, the mum-of-one admitted: “It was such an experience, I perhaps wasn’t the best pupil.

“I don’t know if I was really good,” she added as Graziano argued: “You did four pivots! You did brilliantly.” It was at this point that the TV host confessed how much she hated the pivots and even had “nightmares” about the routine. She went on: “Oh God the pivots, I had nightmares about the pivots” as the pro dancer chuckled as he imitated her complaining: “I’m dizzy, I’m dizzy” as Sally fumed: “I needed a lie down.”

“I did love it, the performance was magical, wasn’t it? It was really great fun and we were with really lovely people as well. An incredible group of people.” Her co-host Jon couldn’t help but beam with pride as he shared how much the TV star had been nervous in the lead up to the performance. He gushed: “I’m so proud of you!”
