BBC Saturday Kitchen fans left divided seconds into episode after major shake-up

BBC’s Saturday Kitchen has come under fire after some fans issued a complaint about a major hosting shake-up, just seconds into the programme.

Host Matt Tebbutt usually fronts the popular weekend cookery programme, but was forced to miss Saturday’s broadcast (February 11, 2023) due to filming commitments in Barbados.

The One Show presenter Alex Jones stepped in to host Saturday Kitchen, but some fans were left divided by her appearance on the programme.

While some viewers praised Alex on social media, others slammed the presenting shake-up, with one saying: “Alex Jones a disaster on kitchen live ! I’m actually a fan of her. Stick to one show please.”

“Alex is a great presenter, but sorry, Saturday kitchen is a cooking programme and needs a cook presenter,” added a second.

A third agreed, saying: “Alex is a joy, however I do think the show benefits from chef presenter.”

“Alex Jones seems lovely. But why not give someone else a chance – she already has loads of work with the BBC?” asked a fourth viewer.

Another said: “Alex Jones “hosting” #SaturdayKitchen what’s that all about?.”

However, other fans heaped praised on Alex’s Saturday Kitchen stint and defended the presenter, with a fifth commenting: “Some alternative presenters spoil the programme for me, but Alex Jones was funny and fabulous. Well done all.”

A sixth agreed, adding: “Alex Jones presents a cookery based show and people get really annoyed like their life is ending. Really? (Personally, I thought that she was very funny.).”

“Much more varied and subtle #SaturdayKitchen this week. Do enjoy Matt’s ‘bluster’ at times but can be overkill. Alex helped tone it down a little, she’s not an expert; which made all the more intriguing. We heard chefs in more detail, uninterrupted ‘banter’ and guests involved,” said another.

Some viewers also agreed that while Alex Jones presented the show well, they did miss Matt Tebbutt’s usual presence on the programme.

“Loved the show today and @MissAlexjones coped really well with the format but I will always have a preference and a soft spot for lovely @matt_tebbutt,” they said.
