One Bridgerton star has confessed that “horrendous” coffee breath ruined a series of racy romps on the Netflix set.
Regé-Jean Page, who played Duke of Hastings Simon Basset, confessed that while filming sex scenes with Daphne star Phoebe Dynevor, their kissing would be filled with the scent – and taste – of coffee beans.
Opening up in a new interview with Late Show host Stephen Colbert this week, Regé-Jean confessed: “What no-one knows about Bridgerton… Phoebe and I had horrendous coffee breath the whole way through.”

Speaking about preparing for sex scenes, he explained: “You approach your other actor and go, ‘Hey, so the scenes after lunch, what are our rules? Are we no onions? Are we no garlic? Do I have to get the coffee in early?’

“We both are like, ‘I actually really like coffee so I don’t mind.’”
And for the pair, their close scenes became a “coffee safe space” on set.
Phoebe has also confessed that the pair liked their caffeine, telling Glamour in 2021: “[Regé-Jean] smells really, really nice. He never, ever had bad breath, and he doesn’t smoke or anything like that.
“We both drink a lot of coffee, so sometimes we both smell like that, which was fine.”

The series proved to be so steamy that Netflix bosses were forced to fight to remove its saucy scenes from various porn sites, leaving the cast horrified.
An insider told The Sun after season one aired: “Bridgerton’s sex scenes appearing alongside some of the most obscene material the web has to offer has sparked horror and anger.
“Raunchy set-pieces have contributed to the buzz but it is a prestige drama based on best-selling novels.
“To peddle scenes as pure smut is beyond the pale.”

The source added that the news was “particularly distressing” for the main actors, who “did not consent to being exploited in this way”.
Meanwhile, young actress Phoebe confirmed she fast-forwards through the racy scenes when watching the show with her Coronation Street star mum, Sally.
She was on “high alert” for moments of intimacy when watching the show with her family, joking: “We managed it, just about.”
