Coronation Street legend lands ‘dream’ role on rival channel 18 years after ITV soap exit

Suranne Jones is set to be on the new series of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK.

The Coronation Street legend will be one of the extra special guest judges

.Her stint on the panel has already been filmed.

She said: “Joining the panel of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK as a guest judge was a fabulous as all the queens were.”

Gentleman Jack actress Suranne was thrilled to be hired as she’s obsessed with the show.

She added: “I’m a huge fan, so it was a total dream. I love everything about it. It’s perfect.”

Other guest judges will include X Factor winner Alexandra Burke, The Masked Singer host and Doctor Who star Yasmin Finney and presenter Carol Vorderman will be playing the show’s Snatch Game.

An insider said: “This line-up of guest judges is one of the best in show history. Viewers are going to love it.”

Show boss RuPaul will also be back alongside regulars Michelle Visage, Alan Carr and Graham Norton.

The series will air later this year on BBC Three.

Suranne famously played Karen McDonald in Corrie from 2000 until her exit in 2004 after her split from husband Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson).

Karen’s storylines focused on her number of boyfriends including, Vikram Desai (Chris Bisson) and Joe Carter (Jonathan Wrather), also her relationship with Steve and her miscarriage and her feud with Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford), the mother of Steve’s daughter, Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney).

RuPaul’s Drag Race sees a bunch of are the queens face a series of different challenges, which aim to showcase their drag skills pushing them to their creative limits.

Each week, the queens face tasks and although the crucial decision lies with Mama Ru and Ru’s loyal Drag Race UK besties, a host of celebrity Drag Race super fans also join in on the fun and help deliberate the fate of the queens.
